What is Graphene?

Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb lattice. It is the thinnest material known to man and is also one of the strongest. Graphene has many potential applications, including being used as a coating for other materials.

What Kind of Graphene Coatings Are There?

There are two main types of graphene coatings:

DIY Spray-On Graphene Coatings:

There are a few companies that sell DIY graphene coating kits. These usually come in the form of a spray-on coating that can be applied to any object. The advantage of these coatings is that they are relatively inexpensive and easy to apply. However, the downside is that they don’t last very long and need to be reapplied frequently.

DIY Consumer-Grade Graphene Coating Kits:

There are also a few companies that sell consumer-grade graphene coating kits. These usually come in the form of a liquid or paste that can be applied to any object. The advantage of these coatings is that they are relatively easy to apply and they last longer than spray-on coatings. However, the downside is that they are more expensive.

Professional Graphene Coatings:

There are also companies that offer professional graphene coatings. These coatings are usually applied in a vacuum chamber and are much more durable than DIY coatings. However, they are also much more expensive.

How is Graphene Coating made?

Graphene is chemically inert (not functional in and of itself). You must be thinking Graphene sounds amazing! Why don’t people just put it on their cars? Graphene on its own cannot be functional in a coating, it is chemically inert and non-reactive so it has to be processed in a very specific way that can enable it to form a coating that can adhere to it.

They oxidize our Graphene Oxide by means of our chemical manufacturing process. Remember the Zinc Oxide your mom used to make you wear in the summertime? It’s sort of akin to that. It is a Metal Oxide which essentially means we bond oxygen molecules, hydrogen molecules, and other chemical compounds to it.

CARBON FROM GRAPHENE IN CARBON OXIDE (GO) One atom skinny layer of carbon atoms, but we’re not done yet. We take this Graphene Oxide and further refine it, removing impurities and adding on more molecules that we can then use to attach to a vehicle’s finish.

LESSER GRAPHENE OXIDE (RGO) WITH LIMITED ATOMS USABLE IN A LAYERING Now we have a smaller Graphene Oxide (rGO) with the right atoms selected and removed. Now we have a polymer (Polymer) layer with the right attachments we can use to finish it.

Look at those beautiful water molecules attached to it! We use those like velcro to stick to automobile glass, wheels, plastics, and paint. They have some pretty impressive results!

Why Should You Use a Graphene Coating?

What are the advantages of Graphene Coatings?

Graphene coatings have many advantages, including being very strong and resistant to wear and tear. They can also be used to improve the electrical and thermal conductivity of materials.

What are the disadvantages of Graphene Coatings?

The main disadvantage of graphene coatings is that they are very expensive. They are also relatively new, so there is not a lot of data on their long-term effects.

Graphene vs. Waxes and Sealants

There are many different types of coatings that can be used to protect your car’s paint. These include waxes, sealants, and graphene coatings.

Waxes and sealants are the traditional methods of protecting car paint. They form a barrier between the paint and the environment, preventing damage from UV rays, dirt, and water.

Graphene coatings offer the same protection as waxes and sealants, but they also have many other benefits. Graphene is much stronger than either waxes or sealants, so it can provide better protection against scratches and scuffs. It is also more resistant to heat and chemicals.

Graphene vs. Traditional Ceramic Coating

Ceramic coatings have been used for many years to protect car paint. They form a hard, transparent layer that is resistant to scratches and UV rays.

Graphene coatings offer the same protection as ceramic coatings, but they have many other benefits. Graphene is much stronger than ceramic, so it can provide better protection against scratches and scuffs. It is also more resistant to heat and chemicals.

Here is more information about graphene vs ceramic coating

Graphene vs. Polymer Coating

Polymer coatings are made from a variety of different materials, including acrylics, epoxies, and polyurethanes. They form a hard, transparent layer that is resistant to scratches and UV rays.

Graphene coatings offer the same protection as polymer coatings, but they have many other benefits. Graphene is much stronger than most polymers, so it can provide better protection against scratches and scuffs. It is also more resistant to heat and chemicals.

FAQs About Graphene Coating

How Much Does a Graphene Coating Cost?

Graphene coatings can range in cost from $70 to $100. The price will depend on the size of the vehicle and the type of coating.

How Long Does a Graphene Coating Last?

Graphene coatings can last for many years. However, they will eventually need to be reapplied.

Can I Apply a Graphene Coating Myself?

Is Graphene Coating Real?

Yes, graphene coating is a real thing. It’s made from a material called graphene, which is a single layer of carbon atoms. Graphene is the strongest material in the world, and it’s also very light and conductive. That makes it perfect for use in coatings.

Can You Coat Something in Graphene?

Yes, you can coat just about anything in graphene. The most popular items that are coated are car paint, plastics, and metal.

Conclusion

Conclusion paragraph: Although graphene coatings are currently being used in various industries, the process for making them is still being refined. Hopefully, in the near future, more companies will begin using graphene coatings and the manufacturing process will become more streamlined.
